Long Weekend

Carrie, Cam and I headed up to the BCR on Friday February 13th. Saturday morning we headed up to Minocqua for Cruiserfest. We mainly wanted to see the radar runs and generally check things out. We had a bite to eat and Cam and Carrie took a ride in the groomer out on Lake Minocqua.

After getting back home, we did a bit of sledding on the driveway. On the second run, Cam hits Senta while going full speed and takes a digger smashing his face into the driveway. Senta was fine but Cam was a bit shaken. None the less, he was back in the sled and on his way in a few minutes.

On Sunday we packed a lunch and headed north to Cornucopia, WI to the Ice caves. It was a bit longer drive than I had expected but was able to get there in about 3 hours or so. Once there, we could not believe how many people had turned out to look at some ice on a lake as the parking lot was jammed packed. We dressed for the trek ahead (all 1 mile of it) with a sled in tow for Cam in case he got tired. We started out slow due to a 4 year old that wants to do everything himself including pulling the sled the entire way. After about what seemed an eternity to get to the actuall ice caves, they were awesome. There were caves you could fit a dump truck in, there were caves you had to squeeze into, there were others that were so small, and only one person at a time could be in it.

We spent about 3 hours out there walking around on Lake Superior enjoying the perfect sunny day and great ice sculpture that the lake gave us.

On the way back, Cam did manage to rest his eyes for about 3 minutes at which time he woke up to say “did I take a nap”? Um – no…

Back home to the BCR for dinner by about 6pm. It was a long drive but well worth the trip. Cam loved exploring the caves and crawling into all but one very dark one.

Normally we would head for home on Sunday, but Cam’s daycare was closed on Monday so we made it a long weekend. Monday, Cam and I went out to do a bit of sledding in the driveway and from the deck while Carrie cleaned up the cottage a bit. I also managed to get the starter out of “Old Blue” as Cam likes to call it. For some unknown reason our not so trusty 1994 F150 did not want to start…. I found the issue in the starter. Off to the rebuilder it goes and then back in next weekend.

Left on Monday about 11 or so and back home by 3.

Lake Alice Fishing Tourney

Friday February 6th, Carrie, Cam and I headed up to the cottage with a few ideas for the weekend. We arrived about 8:30pm and got Cam to bed. Saturday we had to be in Rhinelander to finally pick up the truck from Custom Collision. If you have been following along at home, on 12/31, the truck mysteriously ran off the road and hit a few trees. Custom fixed it and delivered it to our home in Pewaukee but it looked like the high school body shop worked on it so I had them load it back up on the flatbed and take it with them. We were then scheduled to pick it up on Saturday morning at their shop. We arrived and immediatly the tech pulls it out in the sun. They had indeed fixed the front end 100% but the paint on the door looked like monkey crap. I told them I would take it, but I would not pay for it. They once again kept it at the shop.

Shortly there after, I got a call from the owner that stated he would go in and repaint the door and have it ready on sunday for me. OK - third time is a charm.....

So off we went to load up Ole Blue with the 4-wheeler and head to Lake Alice for a fishing tournament. Of course it would not start. We ended up going in the Prius to Uncle Dean's chalet on the lake. We didn't even take a fishing rod as by that time (10:15am) I was ready to just drink rather than fish. That is exactly what we did for the entire day. It was good - Uncle Ron, Uncle Dean and up north g-pa and g-ma were all out there. At the end of regulation - I don't think anyone caught a thing besides a good buzz.

Headed back to the cottage and then to 10 point for dinner and back again for some much needed sleep. Over night, Cam woke up throwing up for some reason. It passed by about 4am.

Sunday morning we got up and I wanted to get my new Bergstrom Triples on the red Attak. That took a bit of help from Pa as I was have issues getting the bolts back through the skis. Got it all together and headed out for a 10 mile trip. Virtually all the darting was gone and I could turn on a dime. This is the way this sled was meant to handle.

Packed things up and headed back to Rhinelander for my truck. They pulled it out and all looked great - finally. The truck was there for over 6 weeks and it took them 3 trys to get it right for me. Jack at Custom did waive my $500 deductible and also installed a new windshield even though the insurance company thought it did not need replacing.

Home by 4:00. No pictures this weekend for some reason?? I guess we were slacking.

Don's Birthday Weekend

January 30, 2009
Friday we were planning on heading up north with my mom and dad and all of us riding in the dually because the Toyota was going to be done. Don called at 4:00 and said it wasn't done, so our plans changed a little bit. Mom and Dad drove up by themselves and Don, Cameran, Senta and I headed up in the rental car. We left the house around 5:00, fueled up and ate on the run in Lomira and kept trucking our way up north. We were about 15 min. behind mom and dad up till Stevens Point were they stopped for dinner(dad doesn't like to eat on the run). Cameran watched his movies all the way up and every time Don and I were talking Cam would ask "what - what did you say". We got up north at about 9:00. After we put Cam to bed, Don tried getting the dish to work for the TV. It took him about 5 times with an automated system, but finally he was able to get it to work. :). It now works great.

Saturday morning we all decided we would go fishing. Don and Dad got all the gear we needed loaded into the truck. Come to find out that they needed to put the chairs together for the ice shanty. Don wasn't very pleased :( but after the 2 chairs were put together we were all ready to go. Don, Dad and Cameran went in the dually and mom and I left in the rental car shortly after.

Saturday night we went out to dinner for Dons birthday. We went to one of our favorite spots, The Minocqua Brewery. Dinner and the company was great. After dinner we went to the grocery store because Cameran wanted to get Don a cake. He was very excited that he got to pick it out and that we were going to sing happy birthday to him.

Happy Birthday Don

Sunday, Don cleaned up the snowmobiles a bit and worked outside most of the morning. We left for home around noon or so. Back to the Ryan Compound in Pewaukee around 4 or so.
