One Last Snow Machine Tour

Carrie and I left for the BCR on Friday after dropping Cam off at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. We arrived around 9:15pm or so on Friday March 13. Carrie unloaded the truck while I loaded the snowmobiles on the trailer, covered them and secured the load.

5:45am Saturday we rise for the 3 hour truck ride to South Range, MI. Arrived at about 8:45 and 33 degrees out. We unloaded, dressed and headed out for the day. We went North on the Bill Nichols Super Highway, through Houghton and north from there. My trustee co-pilot who was following me through Houghton on her own snow machine rear ended me at a stop sign. I knew there was no damage so I continued on our journey and let her think I was mad. I did pull over and then push her off her snowmobile and kindly let her know that she should not rear end me again…. We both had a good laugh (once she got up). Once we went through Calumet, we headed toward the East side of the Kewaunee. Down through Lake Linden and over to Gay, MI. There of course you do what all tourists do when they get to the Gay Bar – they take a picture.

From the Gay Bar, we headed over to Lac LaBelle and the Bear Belly bar for lunch. We had great service in a smoke free bar. The food was great also. By that time it was about 45 degrees and we were taking a layer off.

On the trail again and heading for Copper Harbor. We ended up finding another trail that took us to Lake Superior for an overlook. I really like the lake in the winter and getting to ride to it makes it that much better.

From the tip of the Kewaunee, we headed into CH for gas and a quick stop at the Mariner North. We had a soda, fueled up and headed back south. We then took the Eagle loop around and back the main trail to head south. We did take a few breaks here and there on the trail as it was a great day to be out.

Continuing south we made it through Houghton again, (this time no one got rear ended) and then back to South Range around 5 or so. We loaded up and changed and headed on the journey back the BCR.

We didn’t make it but about 15 miles and stopped at Parkview in Twin Lakes for an celebratory drink to yet another good year of riding. From there we headed south looking for a dinner location. We tried at Black Oak in Land O Lakes, and then to Bents Camp both of which were full to capacity.

We ended up at Perkins in Minocqua. Dinner was good and then to the BCR by 9:30pm. Ready for bed.

Sunday we organized the garage a bit and headed for home. Back home around 5.

Overall a great weekend of riding.

Lesson for the week – Don’t let your co-pilot push you around.
