Memorial Day 2010

Another good weekend up north for all of us. We left of Thursday night to head north for a 4 day weekend. It was Carrie, Cam, Myself, and also Jenny (Carrie's cousin) that came with us for the weekend. We also picked Bob up in Merril at the truckstop as he was coming from California.

Thursday night all we did was drive with the new 2009 Polaris RZRs in tow. We arrived late, had a few beers, and got to bed.

Friday morning we went seperate ways. The weather looked good for the day so everyone excpet me went fishing out on Lake Katherine. They did pretty good and had about 24 keepers with a ton that they threw back. They were back home around 1:30 or so to clean fish. Meanwhile, I went to Harrison Hills to test out the RZR. This was my first real ride of it. On the way there, Old Blue appeared to be losing brake pressure. Once I got to the parking area, I realized that I had blown a brake line on to the rear brakes. With no real tools or brake fluid, I called my dad who drove over with a vise-grip and more brake fluid. I was able to pinch the line off, add more fluid, throw the trailer on his truck and then head to his house with Old Blue.
We got there, removed the line, went to town, replaced the line, and then realized the one behind it had broken also. Back to town, replace the line, bleed the brakes and we were all set - 5 hours later. Back home for dinner and a campfire. Meanwhile, Carrie, Cam, and Jenny were at the beach catching some sun and playing in the water.

Saturday we had planned to meet up with Danny and his family to spend the day out on the Willow Flowage. We loaded up the canoe and boat from our house, 2 coolers, chairs, and enough food to feed an army. We got to the Willow Dam and got everyone situated. Danny and I would paddle the canoe with a good portion of the weight out to the first great beach we could find. That was about a 20 minute paddle or so. Just as we beached, my dad calls and he is waiting for us at the Dam. Back with the boat to pick him up.The rest of the day consisted of eating, drinking, swimming, and generally enjoying the great sun and family. Back home around 5 or so the neighbor comes over to show his catch for the day. That got Carrie going so she wanted to go fishing again. Off Carrie, Cam, and Jenny went while Bob and I held down the fort. They got back about 900pm with no fish to show.

Sunday was the day we were going to take the ATV's up to Iron County and check out the trails there. I had them loaded from the night prior so we were set to go. We left about 8:00am and headed north to Mercer where we parked. This would be Carrie's first time riding the RZR. We took off and headed north to trail 8. It was muddy as usual. From there we headed up to Hurley for lunch and to watch the ATV mud pit. It was hill billy heaven up there with big trucks, trashy women, and cheap beer. From there we headed back the way we came to play in the mud some more. We played for awhile and then the RZR started to not idle so good and then started bogging down. I figured I had fouled a plug but it still seemed to run ok so we headed toward the truck. Once out on the railroad grade, it appeared to run ok so we ran the rest of the way to the truck with it. Loaded up and back to the BCR by 5:30. Let the washing begin.

We went to dinner on Sunday night at 10 Point and had a small fire. Off to bed.

Monday we cleaned everything up and left pretty early to beat some of the traffic. Home by 3 or so after a few stops.

It was a great weekend with temps in the 80's and more sun than we needed. Thanks Bob and Jenny for coming up. It was fun. Not a lot of pictures as we lost the camera battery charger. New camera or charger will be on order in the next day.
